Kris Knight (Born 1980)
Works and Lives in Toronto, Canada
“Within my professional practice as a visual artist, I have concentrated on the creation of thematic series of figurative works, with narratives that explore various expressions of duality and test the boundaries of identity. The visual compositions I create examine notions of performance inherit in all constructions of identity, whether sexual or asexual. My project’s themes have often dealt with ambiguity and androgyny, with an emphasis on the notion of hiding and fronting...."

“My current work addresses the social phenomenon of the voyeuristic gaze and its relationship to pictorial representation. I am interested in how this idea translates from an objectification of the figure within the history of painting to that which is more recently seen in cinema, the Internet, and other mass media.” (Michael Antkowiak)

Hannah Hasper
My paintings of dream-like interiors are loosely episodic narratives describing fictional settings. They could be taken from the pages of a mystery novel or from scenes of a film after the actors have left the set. Sometimes these scenes are based on dreams I have of searching through a series of rooms for a missing person, a girl who is an invisible character in my narrative.

JULIE BEUGIN
In my paintings I combine landscapes with interiors, placing the viewer simultaneously inside and outside and describing reality as a shifting state. Uninhabited, my cinematic spaces suggest ambiguous narrative through mood and sense of place. ...

Existing in a hyperreality, and in what Foucault describes as a heterotopia, the distinction between fantasy and reality, place and non-place are obscured.  Through the medium of drawing, the cosmic foam of an imagined world emerges.  A past era of futuristic longing is manifested as a sophisticated desert mirage.  Nostalgia for a future that failed to arrive, paradise yearning, fantasies about nature, and the ubiquitous Tower of Babel inspirit the work.  From Sir Thomas More’s idealized egalitarian island, an amalgam of touristic theme parks, fugitive moon colonies, and a sprawling city develops.  Within the work is a deeply felt homage to cinema, science fiction, the sublime, and the romantic promises of the World’s Fair.  I am interested in the urgency for domain and autonomy that is fundamentally human, as well as the full spectrum of utopian drive from the disruptive to the irreproachable.  Emerging from these potentially bleak agencies there is a felicitous interest in the motivations of regeneration and rediscovery.

Reuben Negron
"Although his work crosses disciplines, the intent maintains a singular focus – to tell stories of people and events that would normally go unsung. His comics, paintings and photos set to explore the delicate intricacies of the mundane – even when the content may at first appear taboo." ...
